SELF DIRECTED JOURNEY - LANDSCAPES

MADE LANDSCAPES - DAVID TRESS

David Tress works are very abstract and have various patterns that he has created with his brush strokes. The image itself looks like a beach or a shore with huge rocks, like mountains are standing strong. There are some blue spills on the bottom of the painting showing the waves and waters hitting on the rocks. The sky shows the emotion of how the day feels, for me it looks like a bright and calm day.
The reason why I choose David Tress is because his artworks are landscapes and lands but in an abstract, expressive way. It links to my type of art because I like to paint landscapes and backgrounds with tiny details like trees and water effects, reflection etc.
The materials I will use to create my art using David Tress works are by having crumpled up papers and materials with different patterns on it and using acrylic paints and painting the image of the landscape I choose. This will create textured, abstract paintings similar in style to Tress.
David Tress is very creative and mindful about the types of works he creates. By looking at his artworks, I think he is very freehanded and paints with imperfection in his shapes and figures of the image. All of his works are abstract, and brush strokes he creates on the canvas are very loose and not very controlled. They are not straight or perfect lines but they still bring out the image that he chooses to capture. I want to have the same energy and texture in my paintings.

MALAYSIAN LANDSCAPES - SUE CHARLES

Sue Charles is an artist with landscapes relating to nature of odd shapes and box-like patterns painted on the artwork. As you can see the way she painted the sky and the clouds shows that she’s using a palette knife to give the odd shape effect and how the water creates a reflection of the clouds in the sky. I also like those warm colours merging with the dark tones to show the sun is setting while it gives those shines
and rays .
The reason i choose Sue Charles is because her artwork is very abstract and looks real by the dark and light tones merging and creating a geometric-like piece with nature visions. As you can see in this picture, dark tones arts are my favourite colours to experiment with, and this art has shown me that it doesn't really matter if it's perfect, just visionise the image and have those strokes on to it.
The main material will be used is palette knife and acrylic paints,
The rest I might use some pattern materials to give those effects needed on the shape I'm working on.
Sue Charles artworks shows that she expresses her feelings towards nature through abstract and different tones of neutral earthy colours. It links up with my type of work I would like to work on. She inspires me to be comfortable of being imperfect with strokes and lines and not to have too much control on the canvas.
